A 90-minute dance-theatre show in two parts
Raíces Cubanas
Raíces Cubanas tells the story of Cuban music and dance, from its African roots to the Cuba of today. A 90-minute show with 20 to 30 dancers, live drums and singing.
The show
From Africa to the Cuba of today
The show was created by Leonardo Martínez Moya with Sergio Larrinaga, Mireisi Morales and Arelys Savón. It includes original choreographies from the early years of the Conjunto Folklórico Nacional de Cuba. It is presented with the Generación Abbilona Association.
The show is divided into two main parts.

01
Part one
Raíces
The first part is about the Afro-Cuban religious world. We dance for the orishas Elegguá, Ogún, Yemayá, Changó and Oyá. We also show the crossing of enslaved Africans to Cuba, and how their beliefs and music became part of Cuban identity.

02
Part two
La Cubanía
The second part is about Cuba's popular dances, from the birth of the Republic to today. Danzón, mambo, cha-cha-chá, son, rumba, the street vendors' calls (pregones) and carnival. It celebrates the mix of cultures that makes Cuba what it is.
